Agama means 'heritage'. Sutra means 'sewed together'. Together, it means the Buddhist sayings that were transmitted orally from masters to disciples. This is a sutra that was highly recommended by Liang Chi Chao, the great Chinese scholar from early last century. He praised the sutra for its literary content. Sutra of the Ultimate Extinction of the Dharma, it says very, very clearly that in the Dharma Ending Age, the Shurangama Sutra is the first to disappear, and the rest of the sutras disappear after it. If the Shurangama Sutra does not disappear, then the Proper Dharma Age is present. Because of that, we Buddhist disciples must use our.

PrajnJd-paramitd-sutra (Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Lines): according to contemporary colophons, the two sutras were translated in the same year, 179 C.E. They are thus important sources of infor mation on the early development of Mahayana Buddhism, even though it may not be appropriate to regard them as early Mahayana sutras.
